Carpe Diem Blendtron! – A text documentary on the Blendtron Superiority


Transformers Halo, it’s all about what we wanted pretty much. What we’ve wanted to see, this… kinda darker atmosphere for the Transformers universe. And also even more to mount onto the Halo elements as well. I mean, for Transformers; this is a 25 year old franchise…. And of course we want the wait to be worthwhile after all that time.

For pretty much folks out there expect when they hear about Transformers is, Autobots and Decepticons. But what we’ve realized is well… over the past 25 years that’s the majority of what we’ve been getting. I feel that, after 25 years of Transformers it’s about time we’ve or once brought in a new faction that can be far more imposing than what most people are use to. Now originally, in Transformers Animated which I didn’t exactly like personally … there was supposed to have been a change made in villains where the Decepticons weren’t gonna be in it. But they kinda… yeah… messed up with using the whole stupid, like… um; human villain concept and the whole superhero chasing criminals and saving the day kinda thing. That’s why they kinda used the Decepticons as a fall-back tactic in that series. I mean, the Decepticons… I’m not putting them down or anything, at least not too much hehe. But as being a villain for being up there so long and essentially using the same concept of conquering Cybertron and destroying the Autobots and all that jazz, I personally feel the Decepticons should be given a break for a while. In the later titles of Transformers, the Decepticon thing is becoming a bit more… cliché and uninteresting with not much to say about them or DO with them anymore.

Mainly it’s because of the constant rehashing of them as being the villains against the Autobots. I mean… when you keep using the same thing over and over again, it’s like beating a dead horse; I mean after a while it’s gonna go dry. In Transformers Revenge of the Fallen, the Decepticons not only got uninteresting but also much weaker and not much of a challenge. I’ve personally been begging to see a new Transformer villain for once who is truly sinister and awesome, and has a lot more… meaning and depth. And… oh what the hell, but hey! That’s what we’re doing for Transformers Halo!

The Blendtrons are the new main TF villains; they’re after a purpose to free their darklord. And of course… they’re after something that CAN free their lord from imprisonment. The Blendtron idea was greatly inspired around November of ’08, when I was re-writing and re-hauling the story. After a couple suggestions from friends, I decided to do something new with what we had, and greatly expanded from that. I wanted to make something that actually stands out, something that has never been done in a Transformers series before. Heck, I even wanted to do something that’s never really been done in Science Fiction before either! That’s when I began looking into the possibility of creating a new faction of Cybertronians, but I wanted to make them intricate and interesting down to the smallest of details.

One of the things we wanted for every faction and character as a whole, is something new in their armor. Usually when we see a Transformer’s armor, we see this… kind of bulky clunky robotic sort of armor that is usually have augments of a car or a jet upon them. When we look at the Movie robots, they just have tons and tons of parts with car parts augmented into their body parts. One of the things to consider when approaching any culture, even an alien culture; is the way they dress themselves. The thing we wanted to do for the Transformers in this series, was give them a different style of armor they would wear. The catch was, give them armor that had elements of styles from unique cultures we actually see right here on Earth; YET at the same time give their bodies a functioning transformation. Now I know… at first people may be like, “But they’re robots! They TRANSFORM AND ROLL OUT!” And I’m like, well ya… but these are ALIEN robots; so we have to add some level of dimension to their kind as an alien species. This also includes the way they have their clothes… err… ARMOR!

We knew exactly what we wanted for factions like the Autobots. Being a military organization, structured as the Autobots are; required a certain style of armor. Not a uniform per say, but more of a similar style that they would share. Their naval officer personnel would wear armor a bit like the stuff you’ve seen in stuff like Armada, but with more of a militaristic feel. Autobot ground –based soldiers would wear certain combat gear, similar to modern day military uniform… only more futuristic with a bit of a samurai twist. Imagine Call of Duty meets Ninja Gaiden! xP

As far as the Blendtrons went, I kept thinking of ideas for how their faction as a unique kind would be like. Usually with stuff like Science Fiction, you see elements of Greek/Roman Mythology, Samurai, even Native American and Egyptian! The Matrix used elements of Cyber Punk, which was a step into a new direction. But since I really wanted the Blendtrons to be unique, and to stand out in a very unique way; I did some thinking. One day it came to me and I said, “What if we made them Goth?”

I don’t know how it came to me, things usually come to me like that; all I know it did come. I thought it was a great idea, as being a Goth myself; I was curious on how well that could be executed. The verdict: beautifully. We’ve used… well over 500 images as refs to depict the Gothic look and feel for the Blendtrons. We want them to be villains, not in the sense of being the “Look at me, and my powerful seekers and Constructicon guys!” sort of mentality of the Decepticons; but more… of a darkly feel entwined within a cast of majestic poetic essence. Appearance wise, the Blendtrons wear black, mixed with an occasional red… sometimes velvet purple or gold. They wear body patterns on their armor that are heavily inspired by Goth Victorian, flourishing vinyl feel of patterns; like a spider’s web that will devour your essence and make you see such beauty. They wear stuff that looks a lot like Goth boots, collars, some of the females would wear corset-like armor, certain facial patterns would be visible around their eyes and cheeks; hey some even have long fingernails!

We also gave them very Vampiric-like fangs to depict them as a Cybertronian species of like… vampires. They’ve got pale-ish looking skin, their optics have small rings inside their pupils… their eyes would actually glow with a slight sparkle. NOT like Twilight vampires though. <_< Blendtron ships would look similar to Medieval dragons and creatures, each ship’s interiors would have this… dark Gothic castle look to it with a slight futuristic feel. It is mentioned in the fiction, that to become a Blendtron doesn’t necessarily mean joining their military. It can simply mean embracing a certain lifestyle, a certain way of thinking and living. Because of that, we could create not only Blendtron troops; but also Blendtron civilians and so forth. It is also mentioned that Blendtrons are strong in more than one way; they are strong on a physical, mental, and spiritual depth as well. We have created characters that are cool but aren’t so much they drown out the others, but every Blendtron has their own unique “cool” and their own unique purpose in the story. This leaves a table empty for more development in the characters we’ll get to know about. So essentially, every last Blendtron will equal awesome. <3

The leader of the Blendtron Superiority is known as the Alaric, which amongst the Blendtrons is their leader or “emperor”. The female leader of the Blendtrons is known as the Alarica or “empress”, and she would serve under her Alaric as his Alarica. Ranks amongst the Blendtrons are nothing like the Autobot, UNSC, or Covenant ranks. Whereas Autobot ranks are directly based off of US Military ranks, Blendtron ranks are listed like “Alewar of Bloodline’s Honor”, or “Harbinger of the Skull”.

Now for the way they duke out, we have quite a bit of fun creating the ways Blendtrons would combat against their enemies. A thing to note is, every Blendtron fights in his or her own unique style. You will literally see some Blendtrons flying and ducking, then hanging from the ceiling when least expected; and pouncing on your back. Some will charge at you, and bite straight through your neck, lick out your blood. (HISSSSSSSS) Some will fight you head on. A few may actually whisper behind you, and when you turn around; there’s a spike in your chest. Some may even appear as this sweet little girl who sings this eerie yet charming melody, yet carries a mangled doll and a dagger dripping with blood fluids. But that’s just a few examples of the many ways they’ll fight their enemies. Blendtrons would wield these weapons that are around 95% projectile-based, since Blendtrons feel that more advanced weapons should not be wasted, and should be reserved for larger things rather than weapons. So we see then use weapons that fire bullets, some would also carry these Gothic looking swords and daggers. However some of their weapons, like Spark Reaper’s arm cannon; has radiated aged fuel that when fired… can literally burn off another Transformer’s armor and skin! And no, we never forget sticky nades.

Personally to me, I’m very happy for what we have came up with so far. But no, we’re ALL happy for what we have come up with! The idea behind the Blendtrons worked out even better than I expected, and I feel it’ll be one of the best selling points of Transformers Halo. It’s a great change, it’s something different, and it’s very unique. And… I can’t wait for the final thing to be set into action.
